At East End Occupational Therapy, we take pride in our commitment to providing patients with hands-on manual therapy that increases their quality of life.  Though we also utilize therapeutic modalities such as thermal therapy, electronic stimulation, and therapeutic ultrasounds, our staff understands that hands-on therapy is crucial to creating an effective treatment program that yields optimal recovery results.

Manual therapy takes a hands-on approach to healing.  It consists of various techniques, all focusing on the practitioner taking a direct role in the patient’s care.  During a session of manual therapy, our occupational therapist will perform soft tissue work and joint mobilization/manipulation.

Soft Tissue Work

When administering soft tissue work, our expert staff will place concentrated amounts of pressure on the specific tissues of the body that are causing your problems.  Through the use of various hands-on stroke techniques, the affected area will receive the below benefits:

  • Relaxed muscles.
  • Increased circulation.
  • Breaking up scar tissue that has developed.
  • Manage soft tissue inflammation.

Joint Mobilization/Manipulation

Similar soft tissue work, joint mobilization/manipulation involves applying specific amounts of pressure to the damaged joints of your body.  This pressure forces your joints into positions deemed beneficial by our occupation therapists and aims to loosen restricted joints, eliminating pain and increasing range of motion in the process.

Conditions Treated
