Trigger Finger Symptoms

  • A locked finger that you can’t straighten
  • Painful sticking or clicking when the finger is straightened or bent. 
  • Morning stiffness in fingers or thumb. 
  • A nodule, which will manifest as soreness or a bump at the base of the thumb or finger.
  • A popping or clicking as you move your finger

Trigger Finger Treatment

Treatment is dependent on how severe your symptoms are. Generally:

  • Rest- Limit thumb and finger movement, You will likely need to take time away from the activity that is causing the problem. 
  • NSAIDs- Over-the-counter drugs that combat inflammation, like ibuprofen.
  • Splints– A doctor can prescribe one to keep the finger still.
  • Steroid injections– Steroid shot into the tendon sheath. Can minimize symptoms and keep them at bay for a year or more. 
  • Stretching exercises– Helps improve range of motion and ease tension.
